Lab 1
1. What did you learn this week?
In lab this week, we began speaking about the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and how they will be relevant in our future classrooms. We were introduced to crosscutting concepts, science and engineering concepts, and disciplinary core ideas. This will be used to create lesson plans and effective teaching to our students. Additionally, I learned about what some of my classmates want their classrooms to look like and which kind of values they want to focus on while teaching.
2. How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future?
During lab this week, I was able to learn even more about the importance of collaboration with peers. I really enjoy the idea of being able to speak through things with peers. I think it also a great opportunity to use creativity and to bounce ideas off of the people you are working with. Looking toward the future, I would like to give my students many opportunities to work with their peers, because of how helpful I think it can be.
3. Which parts did you find clear and which were confusing?
In the beginning of the lesson, I was confused on the Next Generation Science Standards and how they were going to be relevant to my pedagogical journey. Then as the class went on, this concept made much more sense to me, as they are just a way in which students explore and learn science concepts.
Hi Gabby! I really enjoyed working with you in class this past week. I love your ideas about collaborating with peers and how important it is for students' learning.
